Fossil Shells Bring Hope And Success!

Everyone can remember finding their first fossils, whether they be insignifigant teeth to dinosaur finds. While I found nothing dramatic or spectacular, I did find my first fossils in the form of Oligocene shells.

Thanks to hours research and MapQuest, I found a small and relatively unknown site called Natural Bridge near Gaskin, Florida. It's a natural bridge of limestone and clay seperating two spring-fed ponds.

At first glance, it was seriously polluted and trashed. Beer bottles, fishing line, various items of trash. But there were still parts of untrashed ground there. At first, it looked like all the fossils had been destroyed by human stupidity, but hiding in sand, laid a nearly intact shell. Attached Image

With a more thourogh search, I found more and more fossils (oddly where people seemed to throw their trash.) I couldn't take much as I had to get my little brother to band camp on time, but it was exciting to actually discover something of long ago.

I plan on more trips soon, and hopefully, I'll find some amazing finds!

STC.

STC,

Glad to see you've found some cool fossils! :D

Congratulations! :)

Remember about 95% of fossil hunting is just that,... hunting, ...and not finding much!
But Man, when you do find something, ... it can be the best feeling in the world.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you! And I get easily discouraged and I give up if I don't find much at first. But this ought to keep me hunting for a while s though.

Keep looking for fossils, specially on that site! Gasteropods will appear soon!
Some of that stuff will be nice and rare!
I prefer fossil shells, and I love to see how people enjoy with this fascinating new hobby (in few months, it will become a severe pathology! :D ).
