Hello.
I finally girded my loins to post
For years I've just 'fossil hunted' in various gravel roads/driveways. ;) It never once occurred to me that I could go to OTHER places and do it. It doesn't matter I have a crinoid obsession anyway. It has to be unhealthy. :D
This summer I was looking for things locally to do with my daughters. Outside things. I'm not sure what bug got up my tukus, but it did and we started going to Frankstown MS.
There's a ditch that is actually near us (Frankstown is a bit of a trip-enough to feel like you're 'doing something') that I believe probably has a great deal of fossil in it-but it's hard to get too, and at the moment more then likely full of Cottonmouths so we're being rather cautious about it. Not sure why I've never thought to dig around in there before-maybe because I mostly ride a horse to it.

Anyway.
Nervous babble aside. I'm in North Mississippi, hoping that my daughters get more interested in this at 12 and 14 then "The Mall". :D

Welcome to the Forum, from Connecticut. :)
Can't wait to see your finds!
Although new ones can wait till the cottonmouths are gone! ;)
Welcome!
Regards,

Then it was worth risking sounding like an idiot. Which I'm very good at. :D

Sorry it's been so long to reply back to everyone-daughter has a pony who is determined to be in fragile health. Driving me crazy.

Should I start another thread in a more appropriate place to post my relatively embarrassing finds?
We only just started going actually deliberately looking for fossils-outside of the gravel in our drive and the road across the highway. Frankstown is the only place we've been.
And I have a crinoid problem. I love them. It's ridiculous. I have to rein that in somehow. :D I thought for years all that was in the gravel was crinoids, then my daughters start-ammonites, fish pieces, what looks like leaf fragments from plants similar to what were in my aquarium. Now I see that all the time, and added a 'swirly shell' problem to the crinoids.
:D

Wooster,
Welcome to fourm depend on where in NW Mississippi you live Frankstown can be a bit of a trip. Luckly I live bout 20-25 min south of there 2 people (that i know of) on the fourm that hunt there 2-3 times a month. Finding shark ray and fish teeth among other stuff. Blue Springs site has soon nice teeth mostly and crabs and spine lobster which that site will be closed with a year Toyota will reclaim it . Enough of that , feel free to contact me and we will talk more .

We were there yesterday-why would Toyota close it? They don't own it. They're getting dirt from the other side of the road, but they don't own that place either.

They want close it The Land Recovery act will require them to clean and resod the spots if they take dirt from it
