I was wondering why so very few posts about fossil places in West Virginia. Any of you have a good spot for brachs or other Carboniferous stuff in this Wild, Beautiful and Carboniferous State? :P :P

Thank you

Nando

I've found Devonian stuff in eastern WVA - guided by a local, I can't recall highways, but road cuts in the Mahantango Formation produced a cool Phacops trilobite for me plus some brachs and orthocone cephalopods. You might try googling up the formation to see what you can find in terms of sites.

Dan, :) thanks for your help. I know this is not the right way to gain informations, but I just was wondering the lack of info from WV.

I don't look for important or secrets spots, just I like to have road cuts where I can rest while travelling and, why not, where I can find some fossils to become familiar with the area.

My parents live near Elkins. Hit the road cuts just outside of town. I think it is route 33. Found this last time I visited this summer.

We also hit a spot over near the Green banks observatory that produced some brachiopods.

Few years ago a local took us to a road cut east of Elkins on 33. Found some nice ferns. We went back there this summer and did not find anything.
