Hi Admins:
Is it possible to have a user flag system in place ie check box "ID solved flag" once an unknown is identified. That way people can quickly scroll through and bypass things that have already been id.
Just a thought....

What would even be better is that Posters put in a better idea of what they want ID in the header ie shell, clam, coral, teeth and maybe a general location in the sub-header.

Theres so many lame "I need an ID" headers on some interesting fossils

who decides when an ID is established?? often I see a lot of beneficial back and forth on ID threads before a consensus is reached. someone who might be able to "tweak" the ID a little more precisely such as add a species to a genus might never look at the ID if it is already marked. i know there are a lot and sometimes too many ID threads to look at, but I don't know if this is the best fix. unfortunately i have no better suggestion!

The author of the thread has the final say when sufficient level of id has been attained.

I agree with 'Taxman56'. I don't know if it's a lack communication skill or it's an attempt at a "tease," but those "need an ID" threads are my lowest priority when scanning new threads.

I disagree with 'pleecan.' Once launched, a thread is out of the poster's control. The thread can survive for as long as the list-owner chooses, and can be revived and revisited by anyone. The ID can be refuted or refined at any point (see the pinned thread, "Finally", for an example).

It is up to each individual subscriber to evaluate the information posted in any thread. In other words, it is up to each reader, not the original author, to decide when a sufficient level of ID is attained.

I enjoy the back and forth discussions on some threads with an ID.

Sometimes I get lost when it gets too detailed as with the Russian fossil book id thread but I appreciate the depths that some people will go to get an ID correct.

Because in the end I hope I learned something and if I ever find something close to what was ID'ed, I hope I can find the ID thread again to research my finds.
