I spent the weekend in Hilton Head so I have been dying to get back in the water. I had very strong currents and absolute zero vis. That always makes me slow down and dig more. It seems I usually do better in zero vis than when I have a few inches and move around looking. This is what I ended up with after two dives. The top center two are over 5" and the bottom center two are over 4" and in great condition. Attached File  0907a.jpg   474.22K   79 downloads

Y'know, Bill, instead of those nice plastic rulers, you should give out ShamWows with your logo on them...

As usual you did awesome! Be careful out there. ;)

That is a common thought and often asked question. See here:

yes but see i have a very active imagination. snorkeling in blue water i feel like a little flake of fish food dropped into the world's largest aquarium. all i gots to do is look out and see where the vis ends and i start hearing the theme song from jars. don't want to get canned...

I used to think like that. Maybe I got overconfident. Ten years ago I wrote the following for Mark Renz's book Hunting the Hunter.

Quote

Dangerous local marine life such as sharks, rays, eels and alligators may also await the diver,” says Eberlein. “The limited visibility only adds to one’s apprehension. I have often imagined that my dive light acts as a beacon to attract any creature looking for a fat diver sandwich.”

Here is the rest.
