Fossil ID help Tooth Texas

Hi, and welcome.

I Wonder if this is a tooth, i don't see enamel on it.

To me it looks crystallized, so maybe some kind of concretion.

Maybe you'll like to try to drop a bit of vinergar on it to see if that fizzes : that is the reaction of the acid of the vinegar on limestone or calcite.

Cheers,

Sophie.

Looks like it could be modern .. I find something similar occasionally on the river here in Savannah.  If it has any flex at all like the ones I run across it is most likely something more recent. The spines I run across here are usually stained black or are very dark colored.

These were ID'd by Bobby Boessenecker as Porcupine Fish , Skeleton Burs possibly Chilomycterus schoepfi.

An example of something similar found on a beach in South Carolina.

I agree, it is similar to @Brett Breakin' Rocks's photo.

Hi,

Hum, couldn't it be a selachian dermal denticle ? The size is a little bit big, but  the general shape can remind there. Everything depends on the species (ray more probably) and the size of the animal :headscratch:
