They vary in size, the smallest filling a child's palm and the largest filling an adult's palm. They all have the same shape and markings. We have surfed the net trying to find out what they are to no avail. They're obviously something since they're all the same. Any suggestions?

By the way, we found these when they were dredging the ocean.

They are the internal casts of large clams.

Google "Cucuella Ginanta"

I agree they are "giant clams". I am not sure of the spelling but the above reply is close. We find them in the Paleocene in Maryland"s Henson"s creek. Let me know ifyou could not find the reference and I will look further for the correct spelling. Fossilnut PS I did not find any when we went to NMB last fall. Did find some small shark teeth. Were you able to dredge up any shark teeth?

Thank you so much for the info!!!! We've searched the net so many times trying to figure out what these things were.

Thank you again for you expertise.

It was 1996 when we found these so I assume they're pretty difficult to find now. We did find one shark tooth, though very small. Im not even sure how we found it. We were lucky to have hit the beach while they were dredging the ocean...you find all sorts of interesting 'artifacts'.
