    Yes, they had come a long way from the Palaeocarrot by then. 

    I guess these were Neocarrots.

    And here is an unsolicited little carrot factoid: when growing carrots it is essential to keep them separated from their wild cousins, Queen Anne's Lace, as the latter is dominant and inedible.
