Around Solnhofen at least four species of coelacanth have been recorded:
Coccoderma nudum REIS 1888, Holophagus penicillata EGERTON 1861, Libys superbus ZITTEL & REIS 1888 and Macropoma willemoesii VETTER 1881
Coccoderma nudum is the smallest of these 4 species with barely more than 30cm.

Holy Kermoly!  Really nice!  Looks like some nice rock to work with too?

    Hi my friend,

That depends very much on where the slab comes from. Slabs from Eichstätt, Painten or Zandt can be very soft and are easy to prep - either with a scraper or with an air jack. I am using a HW 323 from Hardy Winkler for this purpose.
Slabs from Solnhofen or Langenaltheim are sometimes extremely hard and have to be ground down to just a few millimeters above the fossil before they can be prepped with an air jack. Prepping these hard slabs can be frustrating and real pain in the .....
This slab was relatively soft and easy to prep.
