Characteristic of the Upper Visean and Lower Namurian of Europe and Africa.

Easily identified by its compact, cuspidate axial column made of small tabellae.

One of the less common solitary corals in the Great Limestone, this one is in a dark matrix locally known as "Frosterley Marble".

Oh my...another utterly gorgeous specimen and the photography is superlative! These corals, even photos of them, are addicting! :)

Very nice.  I have a few rugose corals that show internal detail (none, however, as nice as yours), but I have not polished any of them.  Your specimen makes me see the possibilities .

Thank you, glad you like them! The clear calcite fill lets them be photographed like this. I'm planning to photograph all the species from this matrix - Frosterley Marble, well known as an ornamental stone in the UK.

Thank you, they're not polished to a high gloss, about 1000 grit, then photographed just covered with water. (Covered in a bowl, not just wetted.)

So glad to hear that we have more coral specimens to look forward to!! So the corals in the Frosterly Marble all tend to have the same clear calcite fill? If so...WOW!! :)
