Isselicrinus buchii is a relatively common crinoid in Maastrichtian Danish chalk strata in the form of small 2-3 segment-long columnal fragments. However, starting from 10 segments, an articulated I. buchii columnal is fairly rare, and above 30 segments is substantially rare. On this specimen, there are in total 40 segments and 1 partial segment.
It was recovered from a large chalk nodule, which had to be broken several times to access the whole stem. The fossil has been entirely 3D prepared, by the use of small dental tools.
It is thought that the black colour at the base of the columnal represents a remnant of the attachment disc/holdfast
