    Comments

    These little echinoids, referred to locally sometimes as "cheerios" because they average about the same size as one. They are a relatively common find in the basal sands of the early Oligocene River Bend Formation, often in association with Rebecapecten trentensis. This specimen is one of my smaller ones; 6.1 mm in diameter and is cleaner than most. Many of these have a calcite coating with black and white sand granules on them. In the last photo; the group shot, it is the one on the upper left. The smallest in the case.
