    I'm nearly sure that these very nice cockles aren't steinkerns... 

     

    In fact, you can still see the radial ribs of the shell. And if you look at the Cerastoderma edule shell beneath (from the Eem Formation; Eemian Pleistocene; Zandmotor, NL), you will notice that in the inside it is flat. So logically the steinkern would be flat too, and not have the ribs present. So these are the actual shells :D

    Sorry, but you're wrong. Believe me. I have these things in my hands and I generally know what I'm talking about. They have a limonite coating, which is deceptive.

    Alright, if you say so... never seen a steinkern with the radial ridges presvered before though, until now then! :headscratch::)
