    Found on the beach near Matoaka Beach cabins. This specimen has several pearl buds, including some that developed around predation holes.

    @I_gotta_rock

    It's Chesapecten.

    It does not have an "i" as the last vowel. The last vowel is an "e."

    Thanks. Darn Latin. It's an i for the order and family:blink:

    According to Weems et al. "Geology and biostratigraphy of the Potomac River cliffs", C. marylandica  occurs only in the Choptank Formation  - even if the scallop was found on the beach and we do not know the exact stratigraphy, I think it would be safe to assume "Choptank Formation" under Geology.
