Texas Mammoth Humerus - 48.5 inches

Texas Mammoth Humerus - 48.5 inches

This is a series of updated images (April 2022) of a left mammoth humerus I found in Texas Pleistocene strata. It is a large, mineralized bone 48.5 inches (123.2 cm) long.  For many reasons, it is one of my favorite finds.

This is the 2009 story of its discovery, recovery, and reassembly.

Awesome! Charming dog too, I wouldn't trust our clumsy dachshund anywhere near a fossil like that!

You hide it these days but you're quite the word smith, that was a very enjoyable blog to read - all of them are and I binged a few again.

Thanks, gents.

It still weighs well over 100 lbs.  The trick was to balance it upright without crushing one of my three dogs (two dachshunds included).  :)

Still the most complete one I've seen in a personal collection, found in TX.
