Fossils from the Plattenkalke of the Altmühl Valley

Fossils from the Plattenkalke of the Altmühl Valley

The Plattenkalke in the Altmühl valley in Baden-Württemberg (southern Germany) was deposited during the Upper Malm period. The environment was a large lagoonal system, probably very saline. Famous are the finding areas Solnhofen, Eichstätt, Pfalzpaint and others. The rocks are known worldwide, e.g. for the archaeopteryx, but also for important pterosaur fossils, fish, lizards and much more. We have some rarities from these layers that I like to show over time, as well as "ordinary" finds.
