Elegant Dosinia

Harry Pristis

This Dosinia elegans pair is near-perfect, as far as I can tell. The cavity is full of Caloosahatchee matrix which probably has micro-inverts. (The best-preserved micro's come from the living chambers of larger shells where they were protected.) The matrix is little more than weakly-cemented sand and shell.

Beautiful specimen. I have found a few at a shell pit (spoil pile), none as nice as yours.
