Pleistocene Camel Uppers

Harry Pristis

This is a mix of Pleistocene camel upper teeth. Both Palaeolama and Hemiauchenia are represented here (three of each) at a variety of wear stages.

I didn't keep track of which camel is which in the image, and it seem impossible to make the distinction from only the image. The purpose with this image was to assist in distinguishing camel upper teeth from other artiodactyl teeth.

'Darrow' - These teeth are in a box with other loose camel teeth, and it would be a project to identify these six teeth, then identify each to genus. I did pick out the upper left tooth which seems to be Palaeolama. Generally, the Palaeolama tooth enamel has minute, vertical crenulations while the Hemiauchenia enamel is smooth, a subtle difference.

Top left corner Paleolama and the top right a Hemiauchenia ? Barely more than guesses but on either picture but they look almost indistinguishable here.
