Pleistocene Camel Lowers

Harry Pristis

This is a random mix of Pleistocene camel lower teeth. Both Palaeolama and Hemiauchenia are represented here at a variety of wear stages. One is identifiable as an m3; the others are just lower "cheek teeth."

I didn't keep track of which camel is which in the image, and it seem impossible to make the distinction from only the image. The purpose with this image was to assist in distinguishing camel lower teeth from other artiodactyl teeth.

'Darrow' - These teeth are in a box with other loose camel teeth, and it would be a project to identify these six teeth, then identify each to genus. I did easily pick out the m3 which seems to be Hemiauchenia. Generally, the Palaeolama tooth enamel has minute, vertical crenulations while the Hemiauchenia enamel is smooth, a subtle difference.
