Looking at that specimen once more, it truly is fantastic, congratulations! Do you know what the outer layer on the Trilobite is? I've never seen a Trilobite like that before, with the unique strong colouring in contrast with the matrix - very nice!

I'm sorry, I do not know what causes the coloration difference.

Some of the trilobites I have found there have this coloration, some do not.

I can only guess it is some kind of mineralization or chemical difference in the rocks.

I can say that the some of the softer shale finds seem to have it. But, some do not. It appears to be very brittle.

Strange.

The Pyritized rollers from the concretions in the same area seem to be black in color, and very distinctive from the hard matrix.
