Isotelus maximus

This is a modest-size example of a trilobite which is known to grow to about 20 inches long. This is a benthic species from the Late Ordovician (Cincinnatian) of Ohio. Isotelus is the official state invertebrate fossil of Ohio. The hypostome (labrum) is a mouthpart from the underside.

This is a very nice trilobites!!. It is a very strange that only 5 thoraxic segments are visible because Isotelus has usually 8 segments

All eight segments are there. The first two are accordianed under the cephalon except at the margins. If you look at the margins near the cephalon in the subsequent image, you can count all eight.

it is totally clear in the picture!!

awesome exemplar, hopefully i will get some of those in the future!
