peccary Mylohyus

Harry Pristis

Known from the Late Pliocene to Late Pleistocene, Mylohyus fossilis is the most common peccary of the Late Pleistocene (Rancholabrean) of Florida. It is believed to be a forest dweller. The two holes in the mandible may be canine tooth punctures. Some other Florida peccaries, such as M. nasutus, are referred now to M. fossilis.
