Hyrtanecrinus pentalobus

crinoid1

Hyrtanecrinus pentalobus

Lower Bangor Limestone

Upper Mississippian

Colbert Co., AL

Collected 2014

Note the recumbent arms. This is an adaptation that allowed the crinoid to fold its arms over the cup. It helped with filter feeding. In life, the cup would not be exposed, but because of weathering, the top of the cup is visible on this specimen.
