Three Articulated Ichthyosaurus Vertebrae (As Found)

Paleoworld-101

Description: This photo was taken on 24/12/14 just after i spotted these three beautiful and still-joined Ichthyosaurus vertebrae lying on Charmouth Beach. I quickly resisted the urge to launch my hand out and pick them up and am glad i did. These verts are perhaps my favourite fossil that i have collected so it's nice to have a shot of them as they were originally found- just lying loose on the shore below the tide line, between Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

Geological Formation: Charmouth Mudstone Formation

Age: 195-190 million years old

Location: Coastline between the towns of Charmouth and Lyme Regis (under Black Ven)

Fab, I've always wanted articulated ichthyosaur vertebrae. I'll be back down in Charmouth/Lyme Regis in the summer when everyone's already got all the good finds no doubt!
