Orthosphinctes (Orthosphinctes) polygratus ? (Reinecke 1818)

Ludwigia

12cm. Someone left this either intentionally or inadvertently lying on a loose block in the scree pile at the clay pit in Geisingen. Now, since the exposed layers there are all from the upper Aalenian, it's not at all possible that the ammonite comes from there. Why it was there, I'll never know, I guess, but I took it home since it's quite well preserved. I can't be absolutely certain about the species id, but it surely belongs to the genus Orthosphinctes at any rate. It would be found in the upper Oxfordian and could very well have come from the quarry across the autobahn and up the hill which delivers a lot of ammonites of this type.
