JUAN EMMANUEL

Endoceras proteiforme, found in the Humber river area. Late Ordovician, Georgian Bay formation, Toronto, Ontario. Length is approximately 35 cm long with a nickel shown. This specimen is a portion of the whole fossil that is still to be excavated (it's just so difficult to dig out) and the remaining body of this thing is still there at the site where I got this.

Are you sure that isn't a flattened beer bottle? ;)

Neat find.

Nope. Does it actually look like it?? The image of a bottle never came up to my head before when looking at this. The bottom portion actually was shale and crumbled away during the extraction process so the remaining half looks flat.

The "neck" is the endocone and the specimen was actually preserved breaking down. Many specimens of this species are preserved in this manner in the formation, with the lenghthy endocone remaining while the rest of the shell decomposing before being buried.

But thanks though. XD
