three plaster flexis On base

billheim

This is my most recent creation. I received some trilo casts from the late Bill White (http://www.drydredgers.org/billwhite.htm) who was into making molds among other fossil-related hobbies. He donated the casts to the Dry Dredgers for their use. I didn't get the rubber mold an it would probably be too old to use if I had it, so I made a mold from the cast using RTV silicone rubber.

The cast is plaster of paris. The paining was difficult, requiring a thin brush to get into all the fine edges. Not something I can mass produce.

On the cast pictured, I tried using shoe polish to give the shale a multi-color grey look. The trilos are rubbed with different shades of brown paint and then buffed. Not the most convincing look due to the finish.
