Original And Replica - Can you tell the Difference?

billheim

This is good. I found a Flexicalymene meeki trilobite in Northern Kentucky and put it on the shelf for a long time. After I became good at replicating fossils, I decided to make some molds of this.

In this photo, on the left is the original trilobite. On the right is one of the finished plaster casts I made. I have experimented with coloring for a long time and finally decided upon this coloring style. It's almost better than the original.

Someone once asked me "why reproduce a common fossil like the Flexi?? My answer is simple - can you find 10,000 flexis in less than a year?

When you turn over this plaster cast, you will see that they are all unfinished white plaster. Hopefully this is a clear sign that this is a replica and not a real one. I don't want anyone to pawn these off as real trilobites!
