Staufenia staufensis (Oppel 1856)

Ludwigia

I didn't exactly "slice" this one. Part of it just popped open randomly as I was trying to prepare it and I decided to help it along after I noticed the possibility of opening up a complete crystallized phragmocone. It worked out pretty well, I figure. Found in a stream bed in the Wutach area. It used to lie originally in the upper Aalenian staufensis bank, bradfordensis zone.

From the album:

Slices

This is the most impressive ammonite I have ever seen! Really beautiful, Roger.

It really is! I love the fact it is not a slice...little internal mold to show what the creature looked like... Just fantastic!
