A complete, if yet unprepped, specimen of the late Triassic coelacanth, Diplurus newarki.
Not sure how I will go about prepping this, but I have a few options.

Late Triassic, (Rhaetian).
Lockatong Formation,
Newark Supergroup,
North Bergen, NJ.

Wow, that one should be really nice! I wonder if you could get it X-rayed? I recall many years ago seeing a published X-ray of one of these; it might also help guide the prep to know where things are in there.

Congrats. I have an idea how hard you work for those fish, a complete one must be really special.

I agree. That looks like a complete specimen. Big congratulations. Hope you can find some way to remove that shale covering. So nice to know what's under there. Thanks for posting this and the others. Looks like you had a great day.

have you already finished it? How was it going with the x-ray-pics? Did you try? We tried it last week with a german pterosaur, nice result
