Gastropod partially enclosed by bryozoan, from Madison County, New York

Jeffrey P

Palaeozygopleura hamiltoniae (gastropod partially encrusted with a bryozoan)

Middle Devonian

Moscow Formation

Windom Shale

Hamilton Group

Deep Springs Road quarry

Usually these are completely enveloped by the bryozoan. First time I've seen one only partly encrusted.

Bryozoan OK, Gastropod OK, Bryozoan encrusting the gastropod superb. I love common fossils presented in unique ways, just like yours.

Purty dang cool for something so small.  May I ask how in the world you prepped that?

No prep done. What you see is how it was when I found it.

Gastropods encrusted with bryozoans are actually fairly common in the Hamilton Group sites, but one that is only partially encrusted is very rare.
