This is a nice marsh fly, Plecia pealei. from the Green River Shale of Colorado. The fly measures approximately 1/4" and is on a matrix measuring 2 3/4" by 2 1/4". Plecia is a genus of March flies (Bibionidae). This particular species is extinct.
