Glyphaspis capella Trilobite

Wolsey Shale of Montana
Cambrian Period ( 541 (+/- 1)- 485.4 (+/- 1.9) million years ago)
The trilobite measures 5/8 by 1/2 inches and is on a matrix measuring 1 1/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches. Ecology: fast-moving low-level epifaunal deposit feeder. Primitive Asaphida (possibly ancestral to some other asaphine groups), including families retaining the natant hypostomal condition, as well as other ptychoparioid features; protaspides resembling those of Ptychopariida (not "asaphoid"); not all families included may be monophyletic (i.e., Anomocaroidea as described here is likely a paraphyletic group).

Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: †Trilobita
Subclass: †Libristoma
Order:     †Asaphida
Family: †Anomocarellidae
Genus:     †Glyphaspis
