Order Trocida
Family Turbinidae

Turbo floridensis Olsson & Harbinson, 1953

Statigraphy:  Golden Gate Member of the Tamiami Formation

Location:  Spoil, Collier County, Florida USA.

Status: Extinct

Notes:  Similar in appearance to recent Turbo castanea which has alternating rows of major and minor noded spiral cords, T. floridensis has noded cords of equal strength.  Its operculum is similar in appearance to that of T. dominicensis however that of T. floridensis has a flattened shelf along the rim that does not show well on the photo.
