DEER DENTARIES


Harry Pristis

These are the jaws, really just the tooth-rows or dentaries, of a deer from Florida. This species is widespread throughout the Pleistocene to Recent.

Note that the premolars are deciduous -- the milk or "baby" teeth. (This is NOT Bambi.) You can see an adult germ tooth in the notch in the bone below premolar 4.
