  1. I found this on the beach in Georgetown,South Carolina, USA. The beach is in the Waccamaw Geological formation & same area l found other Pleistocene megafauna fossils ( mammoth, bison & horse ). I believe it is a reptile skull with its lower jaw missing. It has symmetrical nostrils & 2 pinholes (photo 2) that pass thru and exit 50mm back itself. There is a raised ridge above the “nostrils” (photo 3) & it appears to have two broken eye sockets on each side (photo 4). Toward the front of the roof of its mouth it looks like 5 to 6 evenly spaced tooth sockets (photo 5). ( I have compared it to turtle skulls online but l can’t find anything similar) I will post more photos or measurements if needed) any input or ideas is welcome & greatly appreciated.
  2. Hello everyone, A whole new world has opened up to me! I had no idea this fascinating hobby was so accessible. Today, I embarked on an adventure with my children to search for fossils for the first time. We headed to the 2nd Maasvlakte in Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands. We found a few intriguing items, but we’re not entirely sure what they are. I’m hoping you all could help us identify them. 1. The first item appears to be a vertebra. Based on the photos, can anyone suggest what kind of animal it might have belonged to? 2. The second item looks like it could be a tooth, but I might be too hopeful, and it’s just a stone. I’m eager to hear your thoughts. 3. The third item is firmly believed by my daughter to be a bone ;-). I was skeptical and thought it might just be a stone, but the two round indentations have me doubting. I promised I would ask here. We would greatly appreciate any information or guidance you can provide. Thank you so much in advance! Best regards, Michael

    Shark tooth or rock?

Found on the beach in North Carolina. Wasn’t sure if it was actually a tooth or just a very neat looking rock. Any help would be appreciated!
  4. I found this on the beach in Georgetown,South Carolina, USA. The beach is in the Waccamaw Geological formation & same area l found other Pleistocene megafauna fossils ( mammoth, bison & horse ). This fossil has a toad skin like appearance with row of nodules dividing a semi flat surface & a 45degree angled rough surface. Any help with identifying it is welcome & appreciated.

    Shark tooth ID

Was walking Holden Beach today and found my first shark tooth. Was pretty excited about it considering I have been looking for anything black and shiny. Anyway does anyone know what kind of shark this could be from? Thanks in advance
  6. Hello, Can anyone please help me identifying the attached item? It’s about 2cm long and appears to be a fossilized tooth of some sort. Thank you. Jon
  7. Black Crow

    Help needed please

I found this yesterday, I'm not sure what it could be. Can anyone help please. Jurassic Coast, UK.
  8. Found this tooth on the beach last week. I have found Pleistocene horse, bison & mammoth teeth on the same beach. Any info would be greatly appreciated Georgetown, South Carolina, USA.
  9. I found this grapefruit sized (possibly tooth) getting washed up in the surf in Georgetown, South Carolina, USA. I have found what I believe to be Pleistocene Horse & Bison teeth on the same beach. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Today, with my father we went to a beach in the Central coast of Chile, in a famous Chilean Paleontology cretaceous site (Los tubos beach) some people know that fossil collecting here in Chile is baned, so I only take pictures of the fossils. The bad part is that the water is so cold so i can't dive to search more in-deep water fossils (I hate cold water ) Enjoy the pictures!

    Nautilus?

I was walking in a beach in Algarrobo, Chile (Cretaceous formation) and I found this big fossil. I can't pick it because its too big and its illegal here so i can only take a picture. (my hand to comparation)

    Found one more fossil

Recently I found a fossil on the beach of central Vietnam that on this forum has been identified as a turtle. Today we found one more fossil on the same beach that looks similar to the previous one. But I would like to ask you for confirmation. Is this a turtle or something else? Thank you for your help.

    What's this?

Hi everybody, I found this last Sunday on the beach in central Vietnam. It looks like fossilised bones with some skin on it. Does anybody know what this could be? Thank you in advance for your help.

    NJ Beach find

Found on a NJ beach Jan 2024. Any ideas what this is? Perhaps a whale bone? Thank you in advance.

    Petrified charcoal or stone?

Hello everyone, I found an odd rock at my beach in Florida. It looks like charcoal. It’s heavy like cement. Sand has formed rock around the bottom. (Coquina?) It also has rust colors around the sandy parts. It probably has been in the ocean a long time. From looking online, it might be Lignite. Just curious how old it might be and what it is. Thanks everyone!

    Identification required please

Would love help identifying this large heavy, what I believe to be a vertebrae fossil? I found it on the North Norfolk coast on a beach near Burnham Overy Staithe at the bottom of sand dunes running along the beach after a big tidal surge which caused the collapse of the face of the dunes. It weighs 6.2kg ( wet weight ) and I have placed a 50p piece on it for scale. Any help greatly appreciated.
  19. Hi! I found a shark tooth on the beach, near the water, on a pile of rocks this past weekend. It was found in Ventura, CA. I have spent a lot of time researching, tried Google lens, but still not sure. Is it a great white? Mako? I do see serrated edges, very worn out, but do appear to be there. I tried to provide as many clear photos as possible. Any thoughts on what type of shark and age range? So curious. Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

    Beach Find, Another Tooth

Please help identifying this tooth. Unfortunately, I went past my phone’s photo capabilities but I hope the shape and serrated edge give some clue. The tooth is 1.3” long.

    Possible fulgurite?

Could this be a fulgurite? It does not appear to be magnetic, so I hesitate to think that it’s man made.

    Fossil ID, NC, JAN 2024

Found this on Onslow Beach, in North Carolina, washed up during low tide. It seems to have the weight and texture of a stone. On the flat side there’s a convex ball shaped protrusion right by the notch (it protrudes about 2mm from flat surface to peak of protrusion). I apologize for the standard system being used in the photo. I did measure the length of it in cm and it was exactly 4.5 cm across. Also I am not certain if this is even a fossil as I know very little about the subject. But what caught my eye was all the symmetry involved. Any input is appreciated 🤝.
  23. Thank you in advance for any help with an ID for this fossil. This is my second try on this forum - trying to follow more of the advice - thank you for your patience with my learning curve. Found on a beach in Northern California. Asked a friend who knows about marine mammals and fossils and he commented, "It doesn't remind me of a marine mammal, seems more like a mammoth or other large land mammal". From what I can see, it looks like part of a joint ... maybe the socket part of a ball and socket joint? I took another set of pictures using the handy centimeter graph paper.
  24. Found this on the beach near Half Moon Bay, California. Looks maybe like it is the socket part of a ball and socket joint?
