Have been cracking Carboniferous siderite nodules ( and thumbs ouch ) with Elliot at home that were collected from Doncaster UK. Could anyone tell us what Carboniferous plant this might be please measuring about 7mm. Positive photos Negative photo

A break in the bitter winter cold gave me a bit of spring fever this week. Thursday I had to venture to Newport for an errand and the weather was a balmy 30-ish and sunny, I decided to go check out this location. Tides were favorable for hitting the beach this week and I took advantage. With the major storm that came through recently, I figured there might be some new rock eroded down to search through. Armed with only my brick hammer, goggles and gloves, I scoured through pieces for about an hour. The rocks here were pretty well saturated, and those that did not outright disintegrate trying to split them, only revealed mud and ice between the layers. I tried placing them in sunlight to dry a bit, but finding anything in the field was futile. I grabbed some small slabs that for whatever reason seemed promising and brought them home to split. While carefully splitting at the kitchen table, my 4 year-old took up brush-cleaning duties. It was a fun little project for lil man and I. The haul yielded some potential finds, and a thirst for a return adventure with the kids.

It is quite warm and quietly here today. Last house before the coal spoil is still damaged. I go through the street and start my hunting. This site has brought me a lot of Bothrodendron specimens. It was quite snowy and frosty last morning. I found a couple of stones, one red, another - grey. I went on the coal heap to hunt for carboniferous fossils today the low level heap in the morning

This is unusual Bothrodendron branch scar fragment, because stem's axis do not match to the scar's one. I presume that I found an example from the specific stem zone just beneath the main "fork" of the stem (main dichotomy). I have never seen something like that!

So got out fossil hunting for a couple hours today in Washington, PA and found some new stuff, some better examples of previous finds, and a lot of the same... Some of which I still had to pick up but didn't go overboard... lol. I would like to start with something I picked up on the way back to my car. First one of its kind I have found at this site. Thoughts? In trying to adjust my eyes for more 2 or 3D plant fossils I found these. The second I have found a similar piece of in the past that was ID'd as an inner layer of a plant fossil. This is a new piece so welcome to any new thought on that or this other one... More to follow...

Lepidodendron mannebachense has a special cone bearing branches in it crown. The cones are attached to the branch through the peduncles. You can see that hole diameter at the branch (point of peduncle attachment) is equal to the hole in the cone (empty space along the cone axis) - around 3-4mm. Back side

Sometimes I found the Calamites specimens with netlike tissue structure And other finds: Lepidodendron Lepidophloios Sphenophyllum Fern Asolanus Calamites?? Something I didn't ID yet. I thought that is Psaronius aerial rootlets mantle (Tubicaulites). But Bruno ("docdutronc") think that is fertile section of the Asolanus stem (Carboniferous lycopod). His drawing.
