I've wanted to make a video about some of the jobs in paleo for a while now. I was lucky enough to interview 12 professionals from across New Zealand, Australia, the United States and UK about how they got started in their roles. I tried to have a mix of different roles but I have only scratched the surface! I would love to hear about other potential careers I could highlight! Edit: Here are the links to the different segments in the video: 01:10 Sophie Kelly (just completed masters) 04:54 George Young (just completed masters) 06:56 Adele Pentland (PhD candidate) 17:02 Felix Marx (Curator vertebrates) 22:23 Alan Tennyson (Curator vertebrates) 27:06 Cheng-Hsiu Tsai (Associate professor) 32:18 Andrew Cuff (Postdoc researcher) 37:52 Nic Rawlence (Associate professor) 44:54 Carl Mehling (Senior museum specialist) 57:08 Mary Chitjian (Archeologist) 01:04:27 Keely Sweeny (Fossil prepper & business owner) 01:09:57 Al Mannering (Fossil prepper)

*Looking for some advice from paleologists and/or geologists* I am thinking about going back to school. I dropped out of college 10 years ago because I was never quite sure what I wanted to do. I have taken a lot of course hours, but I do not have a degree since I basically took anything that interested me. Now that I am 30 and a bit more stable, I would love to go back. I am extremely interested in paleontology, but I know that it requires a lot of school, and it isn't easy. From the small amount of research I did, it seems like most paleontologists do their undergraduate degree in either biology/geology. I would love to hear advice from anyone who has either done or looked into doing this. I live in Florida, so I am thinking UF might be the best choice, but I am also wanting to look into doing as many online courses as possible. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys i'm fairly new to this site and was looking for some crucial advice from those who share my passion! I hope to be a freshman at the University of Minnesota next year and the scary thoughts of "what will i do with the rest of my life" have krept into my mind. Paleontology has always fascinated me. From dinosaurs to the evolutionary process of the worlds prehistoric organisms...all of it attracts my greatest interest. I have been searching online about careers in paleo and have found many condescending articles on the subject. People claim career outlook is poor due to limited jobs and low wages. I want to do something with my life that contains discovery and a sense of accomplishment. What better then to pair these elements with a passion of mine? Getting a PhD and teaching and researching for a University one day is a great dream of mine. Should i pursue it? I'm very lost...any responses would be greatly appreciated!! again wonderful site!!!
