I have dozens of native artifacts that are tooled from this material. I'm wondering if it's fossilized bone? I just read to lick the fossil and if it sticks to your tongue, it's bone. I'm embarrassed to talk about licking rocks in my first post, but It is definitely sticking to my tongue, much more than any others I have.

Hello, friends. This specimen comes from the Catskills, New York and is from the Helderberg Group, Lochkovian or Lowermost Early Devonian in age. It could be from Becraft Mountain. It's not a rhynchonellid, it's too flat and there's no notable fold or sulcus. It develops second second order costellae half way toward the anterior margin : I have a couple of not very convincing thoughts but would be very interested in your opinions. Thank You.

Fossil Plant Stems Devonian Catskill Sandstone Catskills, New York, USA -
This past weekend my wife and I spent time in the Catskill Mountains in the town of Deposit. My parents took my kids for a week. So we decided to do some Kayaking and I did a little fly fishing. It was a great weekend with perfect weather.

Another strange find today looks like a trilobite ?

As always, I have no clue! My first instinct was Ichthyostega - I found it on the southern edge of the catskills mountains. Any ideas? Thanks guys!
