    South carolina fossil ID’s

Found these two in south carolina near the Summerville and Charleston area, im fairly certain one is a tusk but if anyone could give more details on which type on elephant it could’ve been since im not familiar with the area. The second one is a horse tooth (I think) but I am a primarily florida hunter so I would like to know if its a three toed horse or another species since it looks different then the ones ive found down here.
  3. Upon first glance I was thinking potentially trilobite related, however trilobite’s caudal region typically tapers down/smaller. Secondly- I noticed that the gray striations area of the fossil seemed to have once been completely intact circumferentially around the black porous portion. Needless to say- I am stumped!
  4. Hi! I found this fossil on Folly Beach, SC on 7/31. I’m new to searching for fossils other than shark teeth but I’m thinking this is some kind of stingray tooth. Would love to know who this fossil came from! Thanks!!!

    smallest Angustiden?

Made a pitstop in Summerville, literally; and found this while walking a creek. Infant Angustiden or something else? In Utero?? Never seen one this small. Thanks

    TOOTH FOUND

Was digging to make space for a concrete pad and found this in a lump of clay.. I know it looks like a shark tooth, was thinking it might be a baby meg.. I’ll be looking for more, I think this is so cool. Located in Charleston(West Ashley) 29414
  7. Thanks for any thoughts on the species here.

    A. grandis or Isurus?

Hi all, I found a couple tooth today on morning hunt in Charleston, SC. I am fairly certain the first tooth (in the first two pictures) is A. grandis. However, I am unsure if the second tooth (in the last two pictures) is A. grandis, alopias sp., or isurus. I had this discussion with @MarcoSr in another thread but they resemble each other so much I still can’t tell with my eye. happy to post additional pictures if needed and thanks in advance!!

    Shark Tooth ID

Hey all, I had a fun haul today in Charleston, SC (full haul in the first couple pictures). I was wondering if anyone could ID the first two teeth (pictures 3, 4, 5, 6) and let me know if they are A. grandis or a lateral Isurus tooth. Also, could anyone ID the mako tooth (picture 7)? Is it C. hastalis, I. desori/oxyrinchus, or I. retroflexus/paucus? Thanks in advance!

    The sharks in the stream

Had a great time shark tooth hunting in a stream in Charleston, SC. Wish I knew what types of sharks they came from but pretty good haul I think!
  12. Hey Everyone, very cool forum. I've been fascinated with fossils since I was a boy and recently had the opportunity to take my family on a fossil expedition to a barrier island in the Cooper River in Charleston, SC. Could anyone help me identify this tooth? From browsing your site and others I'm thinking Croc or Mosasaur. Thanks!
  13. Hi fellow fossil hunters. I am new to the forum and learning the ropes. Please let me know if there's a better area to request finding other fellow fossil companions who may be interested in doing a fossil outing around the Summerville area or Charleston. I'm pretty much a loner who has become intrigued in finding not just shark teeth but any kind of fossils just as a personal hobby. Not asking for anyone ones hidden Honey holes, just an opportunity to meet up and make a few new friends and lean some general safe places to get started in the area. If anyone is interested in getting a small group together before summer is over please let me know. And direct me to other places on the forum please if this isn't the best place. Trying to learn the ropes. Jen
  14. I have been fossil hunting about three years and have been to one ditch on the outskirts of Summerville sc that yielded a few colorful teeth, but it is secluded and hasn't felt very safe. It is screenable since it is outside city limits. However I'd like to find some new places to try in the area. I did walk the creek on the side of the YMCA ball field but the bottom was very hard and unfruitful and I'm not even sure I was in the right place. Can anyone offer any suggestions on where I might try as I am fairly new. I'm not asking for everyone's "honey hole" as I understand it takes work to find good areas. I'm just looking to find a place I can go to maybe on a weekend trip since I live two hours away as a part time hobby. I am even open to guided fossil hunt tours if anyone knows any good ones in the Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA or Jacksonville, FL areas. Thanks!
  15. Newby from Western Michigan visiting Charleston SC. Looking for safe, reliable, honest guide to assist two Sr citizens in finding some shark & Mega teeth & fossils any suggestions?

    Beach-Found Megalodon Teeth

These are three of my nicer beach-found megalodon teeth from here in Charleston SC. It just goes to show that you don't need to dive to find the big guys.
  17. Hey Folks, I found this tooth yesterday at a dredge spoil site near Charleston SC (see post http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/37010-dredge-spoiled/). Material from this site is from many reworked layers, with finds ranging from Oligocene to Pliestocene epochs. The shark teeth are mostly from the Oligocene to Miocene. This tooth is peculiar - it has characteristics of an I. hastalis mako, but is very short with minute cusps. I considered Trigonotodus sp. as a candidate as well, but this tooth doesn't look quite like any examples I could find online. Any insight is much appreciated! Happy hunting, CBK
