  10. Hi everyone, this is Matt again. My family's house had a close call today when we had a big tree fall near our house. I have 3 nice brachiopod fossils I found today I wanted to show everyone .
  11. I found this fossil in a mountain stream near Lovell, Wyoming. I was wondering what species it could be? It has a shell like some kind of clam. It also has 3 reddish brown stones in it that shimmer in the light. Could these be pearls? The rest of the fossil doesn’t have any reflective gleam in the light. I added blue arrows and circles to show where the possible pearls are at. The whole fossil is about 1 and 10/16 inch long x 1 and 1/4 inch wide x 3/4 inch in height (from the back of the shell to the tip of the highest pearl). Thanks!
  12. Hi everyone, this is Matt again. Today in the creek I found a nice fossil slab full of brachiopods and bivalves. Here are some photos:
  13. Thought I would share a few specimens that made it to the National collection in Denmark. Back in 2017 I found a Cyclaster sp. from a site in northern Jutland primarily known for it's commonly found Echinocorys sulcata. Out of around 150 primarily fragments found of Cyclaster sp. , roughly 5 were complete and only one fully inflated. Considering that they go through a rough process - First the material is excavated from the walls using a hydraulic excavator, then the material is spread out on the "floor" of the quarry and turned multiple times to reduce the moisture content, after which it is passed through an ore shoot and finally removed from the tailing's pile to a permanent resting place out of the way. This mature specimen together with a smaller immature specimen I donated, might be enough to add another species to Cyclaster, based on the "extra" rows of plates on the end near the periproct. I don't have a picture of the smaller specimen, but made a cast in silicone of it. The next specimen is from a famous fjord called Limfjorden, also in northern Jutland. It was found along the edges of the shore, moving back and forth in the waves and nearly didn't make it back with me because of how fragmented it looked when I first found it, I took it with me anyway since you never know, and it turned out to be an exceptionally large and well preserved specimen ( usually no bigger than 20mm, this specimen is 35mm). It is a clam called Cuspidaria precuspidata, the blob was some super glue I hastily applied to stabilize it in the field since I forgot my B72 bottle, not ideal but in a time of need you use what you have ;P The first specimen was declared Danekræ in the spring of 2019. The second speciman was declared Danekræ in the spring of 2020

    Fossil in Alps riverbed

hi everyone, I found this fossil embedded on honeydew sized rock on a riverbed the the western alpine region of Austria, (Hinterhornbach). I am sorry for not having included a ruler as i was on a hike and did not want to take the rather large stone away from the area at the moment. I am curious to know if this is in fact a fossil of some sort, as I am by no means an expert when it comes to fossils. At the imprints widest point i would say is 10cm. The detailed texture which is printed resembles leather or elephant skin, as there are small wrinkles that run across the shape while the complete shape looks like that of a giant clam. Please let me know if you have more questions of if I left out some info! I am completely new to this forum, here with an abundance of curiosity. Thanks! *edit: it helps to look at the photo upsidedown, sorry for the orientation, I took the image with my phone and have limited equipment while staying in a remote location!
