Can the sun fade colours on rocks considerably ?
Pleuromya posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hi, my space left for things is becoming smaller, so I thought I'd use my windowsill. I found different things online claiming different things. Will the rock colour fade or discolour at all due to being on the windowsill? Many thanks. -
I found this fish tooth last year in West Yorkshire, UK in an old coal mining tip. I have posted a picture of it on here before but today the light was good to show the colour of the tooth. The teeth from the site where I found this often have unusual colours but very rarely anything as colourful as this. I found the tooth in a block which could have easily been mistaken for a piece of coal. I haven’t put a species name to this tooth because at this size (1cm) there are a number of possibilities. My guess would be Megalichthys but I wouldn’t rule out Strepsodus or Rhizodopsis. The tooth doesn’t appear to be laterally compressed, which I believe rules out Rhizodus. Unlike other West Yorkshire sites I haven’t found any certain evidence of Rhizodonts from this site but there seems to be a higher than usual abundance of Megalichthys remains. Sorry for the low quality photo, the colour doesn’t show as well in bright light.

Hi, I found this while looking through some North American cretaceous gravel along with a serrated rex tooth fragment. Does anyone think it's a pterosaur tooth or a mineral, apologies if the pictures aren't good thanks in advance.

Hi, prob a newby question. But while I was trawling on the net, I noticed that Trilobites from different regions of the world are different colours. For eg: Morocco - black Russia - sandy brown China - sandy brown Is there a reason for this?

Greetings, I have a few ammonite fossils I would like to treat with varnish to improve their colour and glow but I have red that treating them with beeswax gives the fossils a more natural and less plastic looking, do you have any experience about treating fossils with beeswax? What procedure should I follow please? Thank you very much.
