I and others have been finding these in the matrix I've been collecting about a mile East of the Ernst Quarry in Bakersfield, California. Mid. Miocene, Temblor Formation. I have never found them from the Sharktooth Hill matrix I used to collect. Items all average about 3mm in diameter. Some sort of dermal denticle or fish scale? I hope the phone picture is adequate. Any ideas?

Hey Guys, So picking though some of my micro gravel and came across this, I am quite familiar with all the invertebrate components at this site and this fossil falls into something new, I have not seen anything like it. That being said I am quite unfamiliar with mississipian condononts or vertebrate material. To me this looks like a denticle of sorts. Anyone have any Ideas? Any help appreciated COLLECTED FROM: Lower mississipian Waldrip creek formation Indiana. Vertebrate fossils are not common if not known at all from this location.
