    Encope californica (?) Unknown Formation Pliocene (5-2.5 Ma) Mulege, Baja California, Mexico Acquired from online, January 2023 I've had a very long and drawn-out internal conflict over what this specimen should be identified as. It was originally identified as Mellitella californicus, but there seems to be some conflicting information online over the genus. I have also seen it spelled as Mellitella californica, and there is a similar species listed as Encope borealis. I've ultimately went with this identification based off of it's description given in the World Register of Marine Species website, but I'm still looking into the proper identification.
