Legit Carcharodontosaurus Tooth?

Hi there everyone! I've recently been acquiring different fossils to add to my collection and I came across a listing for a carcharodontosaurus tooth that really interested me. Below are a few photos of the listing advertising the carcharodontasaurus tooth. The sellers themselves are very reputable and I am in no way questioning their validity as I'm sure the tooth is a real fossil. Instead, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me positively identify the fossil as a carcharodontosaurus tooth as I know many different teeth and fossils come from the Kem Kem Beds in Morocco. The tooth is in pretty rough condition and has been glued together as seen through the middle of the tooth laterally, though it looks to still have most of its enamel and serrations in tact. Despite these quirks, I'm still very interested in adding this tooth to my collection and I would love to know if the tooth is in fact from a carcharodontosaurus or if it is possibly from another animal of that time period. I got this trilobite fossil from my mom on Christmas. Something about it doesn't seem right to me. It doesn't look like other specimens I see online. What is up with the eye-like bumps on top of its head? Why is the head so smooth? I'm just a person casually interested in paleontology, so I am by no means an expert. I would appreciate it very much if I could get some insight from people who are knowledgeable in this field. Thank you. (I didn't realize my photos needed a ruler for scale until after I took the pictures. Since I don't want to retake the photos, the fossil is about the size of a kiwi fruit. If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll replace the current photos with ones that have a ruler. Sorry for any inconvenience. )

Hi!, Recently I've bought a Spinosaurus tooth, but my family keeps saying that it is fake. The tooth came in the display, so I couldn't get it open, but I can still see it with great details. Can someone confirm that it is a real tooth and not another fake? The website that I bought it from said the following: Spinosaurus tooth 1.3 inches, form Morocco no restoration. Hi all, First time fossil buyer. Purchased what appears to be a Spinosaurus tooth. This is a birthday present for my little boy who’s dinosaur mad. Wondered if anybody could shed some light on if they think this is real or not. The website notes it’s from Morocco and advised proof of authenticity will accompany the tooth.

So I've just realized the "alligator skull" fossil my parents got me for Christmas last year is for sure a fake. I'm embarassed I didn't notice until trying to ID the species, the real mosasaur teeth threw me off. My parents really went all out spending a couple hundred dollars on this thing, it's the most expensive gift I've ever recieved. So I'm pretty upset they got scammed out of that much money. I imagine it's been too long to demand a refund, but is there anything I can do about this? Was this even legal? The place that sold it to us is an actual shop, not some shady pop-up vendor. I apologize if this isn't the correct place to ask my question, let me know if it's not appropriate.

Hi everyone! I recently bought a collection of fossils that happened to include a Mosasaur tooth. I'm aware that Mosasaur teeth are very rarely faked since they're fairly common but mine has a "root". I was wondering if anyone could help me identify whether the tooth is real or not and if the root itself is authentic? Thank you!

I live in NYC, and it was a real treat to see a street fair pop up on Broadway after all this covid stuff. Looked like the city was finally back to normal, including rock shop tents selling crystals and fossils off the sidewalk. I wish I'd taken a photo of the fossils, but this seller had four Claudiosaurus fossils that were obviously painted onto the matrix with a bit of dremel work to give them dimension. Price tag: a lot. Gotta be careful out there, friends. I've learned to be so wary from you guys, especially @Troodon.

My new Spinosaurus Aegypticus tooth just came in. And it's a big one! Over 4'5 inches / 11.5 Centimeters long. Was wondering if you can see any doings with it? So far i can't.

Hello ! And thank you for accepting me on this forum. Ive just bought my very first fossil, after some discussion with some collectors ive decided to post this fossil here. Because there are alot of fake ones of this species. If anyone could help me with this fossil i would be extremely gratefull as im learning every day ! So all the tips given are very helpfull to me . Ill post the pictures of the fossil below (PS, if it arrives or is proven fake i will get a refund, the owner also send me a video with solvent rubbing on the fossil to show its not paint) he also states there will be a chinese certificate with it. Authentic Kem Kem Fossils? Composites?

Hello! I'm a new member and I was hoping I could get some second opinions on some Kem Kem fossils I'm thinking about purchasing. I've only collected American species, and have been recently interested in bones out of the Kem Kem beds. I've stayed away thus far because of the stories of composite fossils and Frankenstein pieces, but I've come across a couple that I thought were interesting and fairly priced. Was hoping I could get some other thoughts before moving on any of them (wanna make sure they aren't composites or areas of fill look weird). I've attached pictures of three specimens I'm looking at. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 1) Spinosaurus Vertebra 2) Spinosaurus Rib I think this one is what it is, prep work doesn't look the best, but just wanted confirmation I guess. 3) Carcharadontosaurus vertebra (transverse processes) I was wondering if I could get help on confirming the id on this one, not really sure what carcharadontosaur vertebrae are supposed to be like. Centrum is missing, not sure if that's important for the id.

Sabre-toothed Cat skull real?

Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum. I've found this impressive Sabre-toothed cat skull for sale. Can you help me to identify this fossil and if it is genuine? It said to have less than 10% restoration on the maxilla and around 25 to 30% on the jaw. Any comment or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

I have been examining my megalodon teeth and even Ramanessin shark teeth and under the microscope I can usually see (presumably) enamel that had been laid down in thin lines that always turn and meet the tooth edges at a 90 degree angle. It is easiest to see in fossil teeth where the mineral coloring brings out these whitish lines. It is hard to see in extant white teeth. Here are 3 photos of what I mean. The horizontal lines are from the middle region of the meg tooth along the tooth axis. The picture with lines going both side-to-side and up-and-down is from the region near the edge. The picture of vertical lines and the edge of the tooth is where the enamel comes to a 90 degree angle with the edge of the tooth. Heck, even my dentist got animated when I explained what I was seeing in shark teeth. Anyway, these white lines would be all but impossible to fake.

I purchased this ammonite a few years ago at a store it was supposedly found in Utah, U.S.A. Now I'm wondering if it's real or not. Any input is appreciated.

I went to a local fossil show and saw some highly priced insects too good to be true. They were. Some were done quite well but my $15 30X loupe (magnifying glass) really made the fakes obvious. I took these pics at the show. Pic 1 is presumably a Neuroptera on matrix. Pic 2 is the same Neuroptera though the loupe and you can see it is an obvious forgery. It has been painted. Pic 3 is an obvious painted insect on a piece with 2 cretaceous Lycoptera fish, raising its selling price at least 50 fold. The abdomen in this case is especially badly done. Pic 4 is a different kind of fake, it is an Odonata that has been finely printed onto the matrix. With the loupe, I can clearly see the pixels of ink, but I couldn't get a convincing picture at the show. Walk softly and carry a big......................loupe. sorry, pics are not in the order I uploaded them, but you can figure it out

Hi all, I bought this from a car boot sale, from a seller who sells fossil's. The seller said it is a spinosauraus tooth. I had a look online and saw that spinosauraus teeth are typically rounder, whilst this is very pointed and quite thin. The seller did sell larger round ones, as well as these smaller more narrow teeth. I chose this one as it was the least broken. I can't really identify what a fake tooth would look like. Could someone tell me if they think this is a real tooth or not?

Is this a real or fake rhino horn?

Hi all, I was recently gifted a lovely fossil from a friend. He told me it comes from a reliable digger from Sangiran and it is a rhino horn. However, I have my doubts Rhino horns as I understand, are made of keratin which means they do not fossilize easily. Also, this fossil here is almost surely a bone. My friend tells me it is permineralized keratin but I am not sure if I agree with that. While there are indeed lines that flow from the base to the tip, I can't tell if they are carved or not My friend mentioned this is a river find, hence the dark coloration. I rubbed it with acetone and revealed a different color underneath. I am 95% sure this is not wood however as there are no wood grains and the weight is more consistent with bone What leads me to the conclusion that this is a real bone and not wood is the cross section. There is actual bone structure here So, what is this "horn" exactly? My guess right now is that it is an actual bone (judging from the base) that was carved into the shape of a horn. There is a honeycomb pattern which you can see on the base. Traces of this pattern can be seen exposed by acetone. Perhaps most of the honeycomb surface pattern was destroyed by carving? Anyway, I could be totally wrong. Maybe this is indeed a true fossil rhino horn and I am just over-paranoid. I would like your thoughts please, thank you

I not too long ago bought this piece. The seller told me it was an authentic Juvenile Basilosaurus jaw. But I am a bit worried it's not real since a lot of jaw parts can be casted or faked. Can anybody help me? Size is about 15CM

Hello there. I'm new to fossil collecting and just wanted some help with identifying if this is a real spinosaurus tooth or not. The seller advertised it as real and claims it comes from Morocco. I was recommended this seller, and they've got good reviews, but I think I'm just a bit paranoid after reading a lot of stories about fake fossils. Unfortunately I can't remove it from it's case so I can't show off all the angles. Any help is much appreciated. I'm also new to this site, so if I'm doing this wrong, I apologise!

On reddit, i was told my Keichousaurus was called an "atrocious glue up" i cant see any issue, but i want to see if you guys can diagnose any issue the little critter has, and suggest ways to resolve them. This rlly concerns me, any help is appreciated.
