Hello everyone. For a long time now I have had a doubt regarding the fossil conglomerates of Orthoceras. Are they real or artificial? Is it the same as with the Dactylioceras that died together in large numbers? I appreciate any response.

Monterey Formation (Miocene) shell fossils - Arroyo Seco Canyon - Central California Coast Range
ezeemonee posted a topic in Member Collections
Found in Miocene period Monterey formation in Arroyo Seco canyon of Central California Coast Range. Trochita is an undescribed species known from this formation. Others are mostly Brachiopods (Discinisca lamellosa) which surprisingly is not extinct and still lives in some oceans, Scallops (Pectenidae), Venus Clams (Veneridae), Ark Shells (Anadara/Scapharca), and an unknown Moon Snail (Nacticidae). Most found in 2024, some in 2019. Added a few pics of the nice scenery in the canyon. Trochita specimen is noteworthy as being in good condition with surface detail and may get donated to the California Academy of Sciences collection.- 1 reply

As the title states: Let's see your rarest specimen! Please feel free to share why it's rare.. i.e., is it rare in that locality? Is it rare in association with other specimens? Or is it just plain impossible to find? Looking forward to my socks getting knocked off 😀

Found in glacial deposits E Kansas. Originally I (naively) thought this was a shark dorsal fin spine- after a few minutes of research I found I was mistaken So, I now (fairly confidently) am believing this is a fish pectoral fin spine. I'm no expert on fish material, but one guess of mine is this is some sort of Catfish spine... but I don't know what other fish have pectoral fin spines. Any thoughts? As always, thank you- I appreciate the help Side note: used Paraloid B-72 to painstakingly piece back together Here is a in-situ shot (river gravel bed):

From glacial deposits in E Kansas. I need some help on this one. When I found it, I assumed it was bison... however to my eyes it doesn't seem close to bison or cow after studying some papers. Could this be hippus, or possibly something else? As always, I really appreciate y'alls help. I'm stumped with this bone, I do my best to id stuff on my own- Still learning. Thanks! Proximal: Distal:

Hey guys! I'm posting here again about another strange fossil I found in the Toronto area. Found on the side of a river ravine where other paleozoic fossils are very common.

Greetings all, This is my first post so please excuse any obvious ignorance. I'm an absolute newbie in all things fossil hunting related. I was wondering if anyone help me confirm if this is or is a sort of a fossil or just a random rock? Found it near Hannover Point at Isle of Wight during low tide. Feels fairly light and has some distinct shiny/ gold-ish patterns among the cracks. There is also a sort of a vertical ridge going through the length of it. Thank You! Michael

Matilija Canyon Plant Fossil - Los Padres Mountains, Southern California
ezeemonee posted a topic in Member Collections
Found a carbonized plant fossil in Sespe formation conglomerate stone in the Matilija Canyon area of the Los Padres Mountains of Southern California. Likely something from the Horsetail family or something in the bamboo family. Based on the below report, these rocks are likely from the Oligocene or Eocene periods. The area has mostly Marine fossils but this was probably a land plant that washed out to sea and was deposited along with other flood debris on the shallow sea floor. Some credit on the geology of the area to: BULLETIN OF THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA V o l . 39 . pp. 1 0 8 7 - 1 1 0 2 D e c em b e r 30.'1928 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MATILIJA OVERTURN BY PAUL P. KERR AND HUBERT G. SCHENCK (Read before the Society December SO, 1927)-

Found by blue river in Kansas City Missouri. I have no clue what I have found. I always find small brachiopods, horned coral or bivalves in this area. It was difficult to get a good photo. The whole rock itself is about 10 inches long Hope someone can tell me what it is. Thank you VID_20240301_092103~4.mp4 VID_20240229_234758.mp4 VID_20240301_092103~4.mp4
