    Help identifiying these fossils

Hi everyone! Recently I purchased some Aurora, North Carolina micro matrix from the Aurora, North Carolina Fossil Museum. I am having trouble Identifying the shark teeth because they are posteriors and it is not very easy to find good pics of posterior shark teeth. The last tooth is not a shark tooth but not sure if it is a dolphin or if it is a whale tooth? And I am not sure if the second to last tooth is a shark tooth or if it is a fish tooth? Thanks in advance! -@fossilhunter21

    Safari Sam I Am

Greetings everyone! I'm an Employee at the Fernbank Museum of natural history, famous for our Giganotosaurus and Argentinasaurus! I've been a fossil collector my whole life, but it took a pause for several years and now I'm back. This forum was very helpful recently so I decided to join! Paleontology is just a hobby, but I am actually a Thanotologist, so I know bones haha. I can't wait to see more!
  6. Hiya everyone does anyone know of anywhere I can find fossils in Merseyside England I’ve googled and can’t find anything thanks in advance
  7. Been a while. Did a few searches and didn't see this already posted. The Paleobiology Database is relatively new, but it is proving to be indispensable as a go-to site for everything fossil. It is an international database and far more useful than MINDAT. This site is likely a bit advanced for the average user, (can be a bit difficult to navigate), but for the pros and semi-pros, it is a goldmine. An account is required. Non professionals can create a guest account. Professionals and Avocational folks can upgrade for free by connecting to your institution and using your ORCID The excellent interactive map mode makes it easy to find research papers by site.

Hi all, I am new here and fairly new to fossil hunting. I live in the Ocala area but have only ever fossil hunted in peace river, yankeetown and Venice beach so far. (Mainly because I haven't figured out where is off limits vs ok). I am an outdoors enthusiast in general and love observing wildlife and moving snakes off busy roads. I hope to learn a lot and maybe figure out somewhere within an hour or two of here to check out this weekend or in the future. Thanks!

    Cambrian Fossils

Here are some fossils that I am pretty sure is from the ophir shale in utah. I've seen a lot of what looks like inarticulate brachiopods and little worm-like things. Does anyone have any more information? I was wondering what kind of fossils have been found in these rocks? Also, have any trilobites been found here?
  10. I acquired these and some other actual bones which I will make another post for. Not sure what they are pretty sure they are mammals. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

    Fossils in coalified pyritized wood

The new Eagle Ford exposure in the creek we've been hunting is littered with various stages of petrified and coalified wood in the marl, Dale found a good size limb and chopped out some chunks which contained fossils. This is new to me never seen fossils in wood before, Dale has bigger pieces with bigger fossils and thinks thier some kind of boring clam like Toredo worm, but these look nothing like those to me and I want more details. These are completely shelled and how can something round and smooth bore? Dale's pieces have ones with 'balls' an inch across. On the side of big piece is 2 objects that look different, have no idea what to make of the big blob. I find this fascinating, and so cool each fossil is outlined in gold pyrite. So what are these things?

    More Big Brook Finds

Hey all here are some recent finds from Big Brook. #1. Croc fragment?
  15. Rather than displaying my eggs in a bog standard display case, I have a vague idea to display them on a bed of sand/matrix/gravel --- either looking like they are just being excavated or arranged almost like a small nest with a few plastic plants and things to make it look a bit like a nest site. But would the sand eventually damage/wear away the fossils over time? If not, would wrapping the lower half (in contact with the matrix) in some thin, clear plastic be enough protection while they sit in the sand/matrix? Think it'd make for an interesting looking fossil display, if I can get it looking right.
  16. Last weekend I went to Crystal Mountain, it is a retail store with attached cafe, animal feeding, small rollercoaster (for the kids), large indoor playground etc overall a pretty cool place to visit. Under the shop there is a museum, which is what this post is about - not your typical museum, a lot of things are unlabeled unfortunately, it's quite small (just 3 large rooms with corridors) all set up to look like you're deep underground in a cave. These photos are in no particular order I got my youngest (6 years old) to pose in front of some of the really big crystals to add a bit of scale The complete skeletons and dinosaur skull are plastic

    Sea creature fossils (part 2)

I believe this is a petrified sea urchin. Or part of one. Found it on the dry frio River here in Southwest Texas. Anybody know if this species has been found yet?

    Bone or pottery?

These were found in NE Colorado. Any help? What are the squiggly lines on the samples?

    Sea Creature fossils (part 1)

I got this in a creek bed near Uvalde, Tx and it appears to be some kind of worm. Part of one anyway. If you look closely you can see perfectly straight lines running horizontally and parallel to each other to form segments. I believe earthworms have this characteristic. Anybody know what it is?
  20. Brad1978

    Sea creature fossils (part 3)

These look like mollusks that are missing half of the shell exposing the creature itself. 2 different specimens. I found them on the Nueces River in Southwest Texas

Hi everyone!! We recently moved near Big Brook Preserve in NJ and have been spending a lot of time there. I have a 9 and a 7 year old who are very keen on finding fossils now. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful resource so close. I look forward to participating in the forum and hoping you can help us ID some of our mysterious finds beyond the usual suspects.

    Identification help needed pls

Can anyone identify any of these bones found by my 7 year old at Wapping pls? We went to look for the gallows at the Prospect of Whitby pub and literally stumbled upon these. She’s very excited to find out what they belonged to and has taken some to school today! We are thinking cow or horse due to sheer size and weight. Thank you ..

    My trilobite collection.

Hey everyone, I've been acquiring some new fossils, and it's been getting me to want to start a trilobite collection. I wanted to make this so I can update whenever I get a new specimen. For now I'll start with my Kainops raymondi. Paciphacops campbelli
  24. Last in I was doing a search on my phone for upcoming Fossil / Rock Shows and I discovered that there was one being help today and tomorrow in Freeport, Illinois. Though it would be a 215 mile / 3 hour & 20 minute round trip, I decided to go. Well, my wife decided for me. I advised her that I was going to pass on the show and she replied- “I don’t want to hear you later in the day complaining that you should have went”, so I did. I was very happy that I went, there were a lot of people and many vendors in the venue that was held at the Eagles Club. Here are some pictures inside the venue. They had a person doing wire tying with minerals, someone cracking open geodes and another person I believe doing some cabbing? They also had door prizes and the club was selling rocks, geodes, fossils , etc. Net post I will show the items that I got from this show.

    What kind of Dinosaur Eggs??

While prospecting for gold in Placerville, California on Weber Creek in a deep hole I found two eggs a dino bone fragment, which I sold to a local store and a seed grinding tool. The store owner also sold dino poop that he found in the area. Once I presented the eggs to him he pulls out a spray bottle of water lightly misted the eggs and said they were tacky. He said thats a sign of calcium. He still didnt know what species they were. The eggs easily fit in my hand. Is there anyone who can help with the possible I'd of these eggs? Thank you for your time.
