    Fossil ID

Can anyone help me identify this fossil. Thanks.

    Horn?

    Can this be a horn?
  3. Hey, last post for now but the main fossil of the trip had to be what looks like an edomontasaurus tooth fragment. There are serrations at the back of it and I suspect its most of the bottom half of one. The other bigger fossil most likely is a suggestive rock but I just included the photos haha. Could you guys confirm that the smaller fossil is possibly an edmontosaurus tooth fragment? I found them in big brook NJ, a popular fossil hunting site in a stream of water.

    Mysterious big brook fossils?

Hey, A couple years ago I did go to big brook and I did find some items that I cannot identify there. Im an amateur fossil hunter haha, but I am intrigued to see if they could actually be a fossil or a suggestive rock. Ive attached the photos. I honestly have no idea if they are even anything, but I did have a suspicion that the black fossil looks like an edmontosaurus tooth. No idea.
  5. I want to change my username, but can't seem to find an option in settings. Is it possible?
  6. I'm new to fossil hunting but have found some items that have ignited my interest in this field please help me identify if possible.
  7. Help! I am an art student who knows nothing about paleontology but I love it and am really curious about this fossil I found a few years ago. It was found at Hoover Dam. An aspiring paleontology student told me that it resembled the interambulacral plates of a sea urchin. Can anyone help identify it? Thanks!

    Possible FossiI iD help :)

So I have 3 peices Ive had for along time. Something about them just gave me a fossil feeling. I live near the Oregon coast and that is where I found them. Here are some good clear pictures of my 3 findings. Could someone tell me if they just rocks or actually something cool? Thanks guys!

    The Heck am I Doing...?

I was given this piece by a friend who found it in either Union County or Madison County, Iowa. Gut instinct tells me it might be a Megalodon tooth, but its hard telling not knowing. I am very new to prepping fossils myself, but fortunate enough to have at the least a few of the required tools such as a Chicago pneumatic air scribe, a dremel, and an airbrush sandblaster with aluminum oxide. I have attempted to remove parts of the outer layer covered in rust and shell fragments but have pumped the brakes since I really have no idea if the tooth, assuming thats what it is, will be the same color as the matrix or if it will be distinctly different and very easy to identify once enough matrix has been removed. The rock underneath the rusty layer is a lot harder than I had initially though and is a light to mildly dark gray color. I don't intend to remove all of the matrix, just around the root and part of the enamel. Again I am very new to this so pardon the wildly inaccurate use of everything ( hence the title). Any tips, tricks, info, and guidance on how I should approach prepping this and how to tell fossil from rock is all welcomed and appreciated knowledge. I can provide much better pics as well if need be
  11. Hi, I am not an expert, so I decided to ask for help in this forum. My Dream is to buy real fossils so I found a website with some interesting fossils, a keichosaurus and three Megalodon teeth. Can you help me to recognise if they are real fossils or not? thank you very much!
  12. Hi, I would like to buy this skull of mosasaurus, but I am not sure that it is a real fossil… could you help me please? thank you very much
  13. Hi, I would like to buy this fossil, but I don’t know if it is a real fossil because I am not expert, it is a spinosaurus claw. can you please help me ? thank you very much
  14. Its to my understanding that many Megalodon teeth come with Unfortunate modifications, in order to artificially boost price. My question on thus particular tooth is, does the root look reconstructed, or does it appear to be unmodified? I'll post more pictures if everything checks out.
  15. Hello! I'm pretty new to fossil hunting and I've been able to ID a few specimens but I'm having trouble with these. The ones here are from a couple trips to Big Brook in NJ. I tried my best to take good photos (when will smartphones come with a macro lens??). 1 looks like it could be a tooth or just a rock 2 seems to be porus (I did the tounge test) 3 looks like a jaw or just a rock 4 seems like it could maybe part of a turtle shell? 5 is definitely a vertebra, but I'm not sure from what 7 seem to be teeth or claws 8 is definitely a tooth but im not sure from what 11, 12, 16 are definitely teeth Thanks for any help

    Brachauchenius tooth?

I'm thinking of buying this tooth but I'm not sure what it is. it was described as a mosasaur tooth but the grooves say otherwise. It looks like a brachauchenius to me but I'm not sure.
  17. Hello, I found this fossil in South Central Kansas, 20 miles north of Oklahoma border. A pond was dredged and this was found on a sand pile. Could someone please help me identify it?
  18. I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot my CP 9361 air scribe. I'm copying my same post from Facebook in hopes to get more visibility. The main issue is that once the stylus touches rock, the stylus jams, or simply stops working. When changing the dial for air from 0 to 5, settings 0-3 blow out little to no air. Setting 4 blows out much air. Setting 5 blows out little to no air. If I turn the dial slowly, sometimes the stylus will engage Sometimes I have to bang the casing on something (either the palm of my hand or the leg of a table) to get it to start again I've cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and lubricated with 3-in-1 machine oil If I have just 1 O-ring on the stylus it will work for a few moments. If I have 2 O-rings on it, the stylus will never vibrate / engage. Do I need to just buy a new air scribe? Any ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas if this is actually a fossil and what it could be? I found it in west Wales by the sea, and I've found fossils very similar to what ever composition this is like a kind of gritty, sandy, delicate rock with tiny crinoid. Bits in it and stuff like that, this one doesn’t have any signs of crinoid, but it has a weird black lump sticking out and something white so this is a fossil?
  20. My daughter is very interested in fossils and has several my dad sent to her. She would like help identifying this particular large rock that appears to have lots of fossils in it.
  21. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a professor in this field or someone with any sufficient knowledge in the matter of question, what can we obtain from looking at a tooth of an animal? The purpose of the question is to learn and design an Image processing algorithm that shall do the work for non-experts who would find a tooth of a fossil. So far, I've come to know it is easy to determine if the animal is carnivorous or herbivorous. But I don't know how to do it myself yet. Any help?
