  1. I came across a couple of trilobites that have been prepped to the extreme. Except for a ventral "support bar", the matrix has been completely removed. Perhaps Hollardops and Reedops have some unusual characteristic to their skins to withstand the double-sided treatment. Light on the other side of the carapace will shine through at the thinnest sections. Makes for a cool display! Here are the Hollardops pics.

  3. Hi all! Just wanted to share my little collection of trilobites and pals now that I have a small assortment. I hope you enjoy! I’m working up to actually getting out in the field soon, so hopefully a few finds of my own might join these fellers!
  4. Hi All, Still pretty new to the fossil ID world. I found this Hollardops online- unfortunate shortage of in-person rock shops where I am. What makes me think it's real is the repaired cracking in the matrix/cheek, the well-detailed eye facets, and general signs of mid-level prep. What has me slightly uncertain are the little knobbies on the cephalon- on real trilobites those are definitely a feature, but from these photos my eye may not be trained enough to tell natural knobs from bubbles. Any input greatly appreciated! Best, Noah

    A Trilobite this time

I was asked recently by @Top Trilo when I would do a trilobite, so I decided to take up the challenge with this Hollardops mesocristatus from Morocco which I acquired a while ago. It's preserved in a somewhat concave position, which made for an interesting point of view.

    Hollardops mesocristata?

I just acquired this trilobite over an internet auction house. The seller could give me absolutely no information about it, but I'm pretty sure that this is a Hollardops mesocristata from the late Emsian, Middle Devon. I would just like to ask the experts here on this subject if I am correct in my assumption and if they perhaps might be able to suggest its provenance. It's 6cm. long.
  9. I got a Hollardops trilobite for Christmas, though I think it might be a fake (or lazy/rushed preparation). The seller says it's from Morocco. I've taken the best photos I can given my lighting and camera; if you need more photos I'm happy to try Air bubbles in the matrix? I couldn't find any air bubbles in the exoskeleton though. Changing matrix colour and more air bubbles. Even the trilobite itself can be seen changing colour along its edges at the very top of its bend. Bottom of rock. Close-up of the left cheek and eye. Note the absent eye details. Close-up of the tail.
  10. I´m certain that the fossil is real though im not sure of what degree of restoration that is done on the fossil. And im wondering if it looks like its covered in shoepolish or something? its kind of shiny in a unnatural way it seems Thanks!

    Trilobite question

I know that Metacanthina is now called Hollardops but I have a Hollardops that has a spine right on the center of the cephalon where it meets the thorax. Is this a Hollardops or something else.Thank anyone for advice.
  12. Hi all I came across this Hollardops mesocristata and was wondering if it is real? It has a crack running through the right side of the cephalon (surrounded in red in one of the photos) and also has excellent eye detail leading me to suggest it is real. It also has very well detailed pustules on its surface. What do you guys think?
  13. New this forum and new to eBay collecting. Saw this Hollardops on eBay from a sellar in California that says this is a Moroccan Trilo. I asked the sellar if this was real and they said it was real, but not 100% real...I'm not exactly sure what that means? Like real matrix, fake Trilo, or real Trilo with restoration. It is currently biddng (multiple) for <10 $. I have never seen a Hollardops before, so Im not sure that it is real. I do know that they usually have more eye detail and this one doesn't. It has a crack In the matrix which is indicates authenticy. The sellar doesn't have any more trilos for sale and mainly minerals. Someone who knows more about these and can give me some info is greatly appreciated! Thanks FF
  14. I 've got questions about these trilobite species. Basically, when I search for Cambropallas, I also get search results of Andalusiana. Sometimes the results even show Cambropallas (Andalusiana). The same occurs for Metacanthina and Hollardops, where results of Hollardops (Metacanthina) occurs. Are Metacanthina and Hollardops the same family of trilobites? Which is the scientific name? Are Andalusiana and Cambropallas the same family too? Which is the scientific name? Thanks!
