  3. This Missourian is headed out to the Late Devonian of western New York state and Pennsylvania this coming week and hoping for a little help from y'all on localities for eurypterids and the sponge Hydnoceras. Are Clarke's (1920) Hydnoceras localities at Brown Hill (near Cohocton, NY) and Irish Hill (near Bath, NY) still productive and accessible? Are Ehlers' (1935) eurypterid localities at Bush Hill (near Smethport, PA)? Or are there other spots I should be checking out? I understand that the Trimmers Rock Formation in the vicinity of Bloomsburg, PA, is also worth a look for eurypterids, but I don't have any pinpoints mapped. If you're local to the area and want to show me the way yourself, I'll gladly bring you some Missouri crinoids Thanks in advance . . .

    Guadalupe Mountains National Park

I found this a few years back near (but not in) Guadalupe Mts National Park. Is it a sponge, coral, algae, or something else? Piece is about 6 inches across. Thank you for your help.
  8. Hello, I purchased this specimen a few months ago at an estate sale. No label, no information. The fossil has been split lengthwise, polished, and the interior void space looks to have been filled with a sort of yellowish epoxy. Each half measures approx. 4.75 cm long x 2.5 cm across. Original depth before cutting looks to have been around 2.5 cm. I believe it is a Turritella, in a distinctive layered, calcareous concretion. I was able to find a photo of an almost identical specimen on a college professor's website, but I was unable to get additional information after following up: the specimen isn't in their collection and the professor who took the photo has since retired -- and supposedly liked to take photos of odd specimens at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show [direct link to image]: http://skywalker.cochise.edu/wellerr/fossil/gastropod/6fssl-gastropod-turritella2.jpg I think I've seen similar specimens before, but can't recall where... Does anyone know where this piece might be from? I'm hoping the concretion is distinctive enough to be identifiable... Thanks

  11. This fossil was found by a friend near Falls of the Ohio, so presumably Middle Devonian but who knows. The hollow elements are straight, with angular cross-sections, and seem to be organized in alternating orientations. Any and all insights appreciated. The coin is an American quarter dollar, about an inch (24.26 mm) in diameter.

    Possible fossil coral

Fossil forum, This is another fossil from the Leighton Fm haul. I was thinking coral, because of the external mold of it, but the internal mold has interesting segments. Unfortunately, the internal mold is missing a piece. Here are some pictures (internal mold on the left, external on the right):

    Unknown invertebrate fossil

Fossil forum, Good morning. I recently found an interesting fossil invertebrate. It was found at the Leighton formation, Maine. I was thinking possible coral, but the segments on it were perplexing. Trilobite didn't seem to fit because of the size and the shape of the segments. Any help would be appreciated. Here are some pictures of it (the internal mold is on the left, external on the right):

    Mazon Creek id help

Hey everyone, I recently got a bunch of stuff from Mazon Creek, which I have zero experience with. I would really appreciate some help in identifying this stuff, so here's a few of the things. Everything is from Mazon Creek Pennsylvanian in siderite concretions, the scale bar is in mm. The picture labels are what came to mind looking at them. Thanks Everyone!

    Silurian Invertebrate Needs ID

These are two fossils of the same species collected at the Long Pond Road Site along the Erie Canal in Greece, New York. They are from the middle Silurian Rochester shale. These were collected last winter, and I have since been unable to identify them. Both are no greater than 3cm in length. Some interesting fine detail is visible on the first specimen. The American dime is 1.8cm in diameter.
  24. The winner of the November 2020 IPFOTM goes to... Heterosalenia sp. nov. echinoid (new species currently being described) - Lower Glen Rose Formation, Lower Cretaceous (Albian) - Comal County, Texas Congratulations to @JamieLynn !!!
  25. Here is a picture of a Bivalve imprint I found whilst in a Creek in Western Wake County. I was in the Triassic Basin and they have fossils dating back around 230 Ma ± 2 ma. It was part of the Carnian Stage of the Triassic part of the bigger Newark Supergroup. I presume it is a freshwater genus but I don't hear much about freshwater Bivalves when it comes to Triassic fossils.
